Regular Exams & Cleaning

Cleanings and exams are generally scheduled every six to eight months. During your professional cleaning, we remove plaque and tartar from your teeth to keep it from building up and causing cavities or gum disease. We polish your teeth and then Dr. Settimi performs an oral exam, looking for cavities, oral cancer, or other areas of concern. X-rays may be taken to view any problems that cannot be seen visually.

General Dentistry

Restorative Care

Restorative dentistry includes any procedure that uses a device to restore teeth to proper functioning.

Fillings

The most common restorative device is a filling. We offer amalgam (silver) fillings as an inexpensive option that lasts several years. We also use composite resins that are tooth-colored and more aesthetically pleasing than silver fillings. These provide a more natural appearance, though they generally only last three to 10 years. We generally recommend these for cavities in visible areas.

Dental Implants

Patients with dental implants occasionally find that the implant has become loose or the crown has cracked or fallen off. If this happens to you, call our office right away so that we can provide implant restoration. The process depends upon what part of the implant needs repair. If the crown has fallen off, please keep it and bring it with you to the appointment.

Bridges

Areas of one to four missing teeth can be repaired using a dental bridge. A bridge is formed using the teeth next to the missing ones to adhere natural-looking replacement teeth in the gap. It’s important to attend to missing teeth because the adjacent ones can drift and move, causing pain and difficulty eating due to an altered bite.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Any dental procedure designed to improve the appearance of your smile is considered to be cosmetic dentistry. This may include crowns, teeth whitening, and more.

Veneers

For teeth that are badly stained, crooked, chipped, misaligned, or have gaps, veneers may be the treatment of choice. A veneer is a very thin sheet of either porcelain or ceramic made specifically to meet the needs of your teeth. An impression will be made for the lab to mill the veneers for you. Your dentist will adhere the veneers to your teeth to solve your dental problem.

Bonding

Bonding is used for reasons similar to veneers. With bonding, a composite resin is bonded to teeth, hardened with a light, and then shaped appropriately and polished for a natural look. Ask Dr. Settimi whether veneers or bonding is right for you.

Crowns

When a tooth is weak from a large cavity, fracture, or root canal, a crown or “cap” may be placed over it. A crown will cover the entire tooth, returning it to normal function. Crowns are also used to cover dental implants.

Teeth Whitening

Wine, coffee, tea, and other dark-colored drinks can stain teeth. Some foods and medications can also cause discoloration. If your smile is stained or simply dull, teeth whitening may be a good option for you. With at-home whitening, you can maintain your bright, whitened smile. We can also create trays for whitening kits for patients who prefer to do the whitening process at home.
